The objective of The Art Room is to serve as a platform where students can feel safe to try out new ideas and concepts while having fun and taking risks.  Rather than compel a child to reach an end product, the emphasis will be placed upon the process of making.  Students will also be encouraged to come up with creative solutions that call upon higher-order thinking skills and problem-solving strategies. As a result, students will have a better sense of themselves and how they work with, and react to, various mediums as they attempt to visually articulate the ideas that they are exploring.
If students understand this, then they will recognize the power of their own instincts, interpretations, and preferences.  Their experiences and insight will set the stage for dialog with peers when examining and reacting to each other’s work.  Students will have created connections and  context of arts’ role in history as a reflection of the religious, political, and social movements found in each painting, sculpture, print… and beyond!
